The Boys Season 5 Theories – Can Butcher Defeat Homelander Now?

The Boys Season 4 concluded today and the whole season was the build up for the upcoming Season 5. I really got the Avengers Infinity War vibes from the season 4 finale. Though a lot of fans disliked the finale I happen to love it as I mentioned in the review.

The Boys Season 5 is planned for release in the summer of 2026 as confirmed by Karl Urban and will conclude the entire series. The filming has not begun yet but the announcement of Season 5 came ahead of Season 4 release.

Gen V Season 2 is currently being filmed so, it will arrive before the final season of The Boys.

Butcher New Powers – Can Butcher Kill Homelander?

Butcher was hospitalized and he accepted his fate that he was going to die. He was doing one last favor for Grace and was trying to set things straight with Ryan.

However, after Ryan finds out the truth about what Grace and Butcher were actually doing to leave. Grace then tries to stop Ryan forcefully. Ryan then accidentally kills Grace by pushing her a little too hard.

Butcher undergoes a change of heart after Ryan kills Grace Mallory. Butcher then lets Kessler take over his body. He then kills Victoria Neuman and steals the Supe virus.

We have seen Victoria Neuman’s abilities and at the start of the season, it was revealed she is invulnerable. Even the acid and the bullet to the head didn’t work on her. However, Butcher’s tentacles were able to tear her apart.

Butcher is now stronger than most of the supes, the bodyguard of Neuman tries to shoot Butcher but the bullet doesn’t work on him which means when he lets Kessler control him, he is invulnerable.

However, Butcher is still not strong enough to fight Homelander, which is why he takes the virus from Frenchie so that he can come up with a stronger variant to kill Homelander.

It is still unclear what the full extent of Butcher’s powers are and how they will evolve in the future.

Is Kessler Now Using Butcher’s Body?

No, Butcher still has control over his body it seems they came up with an agreement of some sort. If it was Kessler, he would have killed Starlight, Zoe, and Kimiko on the spot but he left saying, You are Welcome. That means he is in control.

But that doesn’t mean he won’t kill supes in Season 5. With his new abilities, he is most likely going on a rampage against the supes and The Seven.

He won’t use the virus to do the Genocide as we all expected, but this is just a speculation.

Will Soldier Boy Return in The Boys Season 5?

Yes, Showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed that before the series finale, Soldier Boy will return. We have seen a cameo of him in the end credits scene of The Boys Season 4. This confirms he is coming back.

However, he will most definitely not partner up with Butcher since he is the one who put him in the chamber again. He already hates Homelander so he won’t partner up with him either even though he is his son.

My guess is, it will be A-Train who will free him in Season 5. A-Train has betrayed Homelander and has to look over his shoulder even though he is no longer in the same country. So, to deal with Homelander he will free Soldier Boy so that he can kill Homelander.

Soldier Boy, after his return, his main goal was to take revenge on his previous team who didn’t come to rescue him. So, this time his main goal will be to take revenge on Butcher.

We will most likely see Butcher vs Homelander vs Soldier Boy, the ultimate showdown in Season 3.

Update: Eric Kripke just confirmed that Soldier Boy will be fighting against Billy Butcher and there will be father-son relationship (Homelander and Soldier Boy) exploration in the upcoming season too.

Butcher vs Every Supe (Comic Panel)

There is a very famous panel in which Butcher is going against all the Supes in the United States of America who are under Vought’s control. He is going towards the White House meanwhile all the supes are flying.

So we can expect something similar in Season 5 too, though most of the supes who can fly in the comics, cannot fly in the actual season.

However, it would be cool to see Butcher going on a rampage against every Supe protecting the new president and Homelander.

Final Words

We will have to wait for two more years for Season 5. However, we can totally speculate what is going to happen in the upcoming season.
