Why Textures Are Missing in Dragon's Dogma 2? Invisible Floor/Ground Issue (AMD Vega)

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a blast RPG, but some players with AMD Vega graphics cards are hitting a weird problem: parts of the ground, walls, or even objects just aren’t there! It sounds frustrating, so let’s dive into what’s going on and potential solutions.

What’s the Issue?

This seems to mostly affect Vega cards. Large chunks of the ground become see-through holes. It’s playable, but really distracting. Newer AMD cards and Nvidia ones don’t seem to have this problem as often.

Unfortunately, the usual tricks (updating drivers, changing settings) don’t seem to help much for Vega users.

Why is This Happening?

It’s not 100% clear, but here are my theories:

  • Vega cards might not be getting the updates they need for Dragon’s Dogma 2’s specific graphics rendering. Hopefully, AMD will address this soon.
  •  The way the game creates its world could be clashing with Vega cards specifically. A patch from the developers might be needed.

Possible Workarounds (While We Wait for a Real Fix)

There’s a complicated registry edit involving the shader cache that has helped some users. Search online for guides, but be careful messing with your registry! The ground texture issue might be worse in certain zones of the game. It’s annoying, but there is no other option for Vega users since developers have not acknowledged this issue yet and no one from the community has found the solution to it.

For Nvidia users, Steam Community has found a fix, follow the steps below:

  • Go to where you have Dragon’s Dogma 2 installed. It’s usually something like “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dragons Dogma 2”
  • Open the file named “config.ini” in Notepad or a similar text editor.
  • Find the line that says “AllowMeshShader=Enable” and change it to “AllowMeshShader=Disable”.
  • Save the file and launch the game. Hopefully, the missing textures are back!

This specific fix seems to work on Nvidia cards. AMD users won’t have the AllowMeshShader settings in their config.ini file.

Final Words

Sadly, it seems like we’ll have to wait for either AMD or the Dragon’s Dogma 2 devs to release a proper fix. In the meantime, here’s what you can do, the more people report the issue, the more likely devs will notice. Post on forums, social media, etc. (politely, of course!) Check for AMD driver updates, or Dragon’s Dogma 2 patches.
