Intel’s 13th and 14th generation CPUs, specifically the 13900K and 14900K are overheating while playing Space Marines 2, this sometimes results in a blue screen of death or crash.
While the root cause is currently under investigation by Intel, it is speculated that these high-performance CPUs may be drawing excessive power under heavy load, leading to thermal throttling and eventual system shutdown.
So how you can fix this issue? In this article, I will guide you on how can you at least fix the overheating of these CPUs, while the crashing part will require you to lower some of the graphic settings.
How To Fix Space Marines 2 CPU Overheating?
Adjust Power Settings via Bios
Enter your system’s BIOS settings by pressing the designated key during startup (typically F2 or Delete). Navigate to the section related to CPU power management. This may be under “Advanced” or “Overclocking” settings.
Look for settings such as “Power Limit 1” or “Long Duration Power Limit.” Lower these values to restrict the maximum power drawn by the CPU. Start with a 10-15% reduction and monitor for stability. Save the changes and exit the BIOS.
Utilize Intel XTU
Download Intel Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU) from Intel’s website and install it. Launch the XTU application. Navigate to the section controlling CPU core ratios. Find the setting labeled “Performance Core Ratio.”

Decrease the value from 59 to 57 initially. This instructs the CPU to operate at a slightly lower frequency, potentially reducing power consumption and heat generation.
If issues persist, try lowering the ratio further to 55. Be aware that this may impact overall system performance. Save the changes in XTU and restart your PC.
Disable Performance Boost
Open Windows PowerShell and paste this command: powercfg /attributes SUB_PROCESSOR PERFBOOSTMODE -ATTRIB_HIDE.
This reveals a hidden option in your power settings. Go to Control Panel, select Power Options, click on Edit Plan Settings, and change advanced power settings.
Expand processor power management and then Processor performance boost.
Set Processor performance boost to Disabled. This stops your CPU from going into overdrive when you launch the game.
Also, make sure you are running the latest graphics drivers in case your issue is not linked to your CPU.
And for the crashing part, I have an RTX 3060 so I am going to suggest you settings according to my card.
- Render Resolution: Balanced.
- Resolution Upscaling: DLSS.
- Motion Blur: OFF.
- FPS Limit: Unlimited.
Now for the “Quality” part, keep everything to “High” except Volumetrics, and change it to medium. Turn off screen space reflections and screen space ambient occlusion.
I hope these solutions help you fix the overheating issue and the crashing issue as well! If my solutions help, don’t forget to rate the article below!
