Once Human, the upcoming open-world survival game has been generating quite a buzz lately. It’s even climbed into the top 10 most wishlisted games on Steam!

They’ve recently released a demo as part of Steam Next Fest, and I decided to give it a go. The game will officially release next month on July 9th.

Thinking about giving Once Human Demo a try but not sure if it will be worth your time? This guide will help you make that decision.

First Impressions

As I love survival crafting games. This year has been a treat for us so many survival crafting games were launched in Early Access.

Palworld, Nightingale, Enshrouded, etc were all launched this year but the hype died after a while as they were all in Early Access and once you reach the max level cap there is not much to do anyway.

So, let’s discuss Once Human, the demo’s graphics are actually pretty impressive. But you will only like it if you enjoy post-apocalyptic stories.

If you have played Control Z it is similar to that game in some way with the survival crafting elements. Same thing you do in other games, cut trees, gather stones (grovels), and then make stuff.

The demo content is a bit limited, so you might find yourself doing the same things over and over. I only played the game for two hours straight and got bored.

The game is relatively easier than the other survival crafting games, especially Valheim.

At first, you need to do a tutorial solo which takes about 10 minutes to complete and at the end, you have to defeat Siren (a boss).

After defeating him you will be able to join a world and play with your friends too.

You have a melee weapon from the start and in tutorial, you will be able to craft a crossbow once you create a camp. You won’t lose your items once you travel to the open multiplayer world.

The combat feels smooth, whether you’re shooting guns or fighting enemies with a melee weapon.

You can one-shot the deer with a crossbow that is roaming around and use its meat for food.

It is pretty easy to kill monsters in this game, I defeated the first boss with 12 arrows and the boss was super slow.

After traveling to a world, you will need to create a territory that can not overlap with someone else’s territory. If you are playing in PVP mode try not to create terriority close to someone else.

As we all know the game is also designed for the mobile phones users as well so there are certain aspects that make it a more mobile-friendly game.

Moreover, there are concerns about the game’s “gacha” system, which involves spending in-game currency to get random items.

Most of the mobile games are pay2win so it was expected but that doesn’t mean you can’t get the items without spending money. You can craft them yourself by following the recipe of the item.

Should You Play It?

So, is the demo worth your time? It depends. If you’re a fan of survival games and enjoy playing with friends. It is definitely worth checking out.

However, the game seems really easy maybe it is because of the demo or maybe the game is actually easy. You can reach up to level 10 within 2 hours easily.

The demo is free to play until June 17th. So, you can just give it a try and if you like it then you can play the full version too on July 9th.

However, if you are not a fan of microtransactions and repetitions in the game, then there is no point in trying even the demo.
