In Dragon’s Dogma 2, armor isn’t just about looking badass (though that matters). The Howling Hood is a great, early-game piece that can give you the edge, especially if you’re into those sneaky, ranged Vocations. Here’s why it’s worth grabbing, and how to get your hands on it!

Why Bother with the Howling Hood?
- Stat Power: Don’t be fooled by the low defense numbers. It’s got great magic defense, plus it subtly boosts your knockdown resistance, which is annoyingly important in this game.
- Chill Out: Offers a little fire resistance, which comes in handy surprisingly often.
- Monster Mash: That little sleep resistance bonus is key! There are some annoying enemies that inflict sleep, and this helps take the edge off those fights.
- Intimidation Factor: Okay, maybe the whole “scares off small monsters” thing is overblown, but it LOOKS cool, right? That counts for something!
Where Do I Find This Thing?
You’ve got two options:
From Shop
Head to the Nameless Village (northeast of the main town) and check out the merchant there. If they’ve got it, it’ll set you back about 3900 gold – not cheap, but doable early on.
Find it Yourself
Feeling adventurous? Head south of Malve to the Marshland Settlement. You’ll see a little house with a door you can force open, you can directly break it from the outside, go behind the house you will see a small window from there use ranged attack to open the door from the inside. Inside, go down the ladder, and then SMASH ALL THE THINGS. Seriously, break every wooden crate and barrel, one of them contains the hood!
Don’t forget, you can bump up the stats on the Howling Hood by having it enhanced at a forge. Focus on what benefits your playstyle – more magic defense if you’re a mage, physical defense if you’re taking hits up close. And yeah, the Wyrmfire option later on gets expensive, but that extra strength boost might be worth it.

Is the Howling Hood an Endgame Item?
Honestly, no. As you level up, you’ll find stuff with better overall stats. BUT, for a good chunk of the early game, this is a surprisingly well-rounded, useful piece of armor. Plus, sometimes, you just want your character to look like they’ve been tangling with wolves, right?
