Oxen are the workhorses of your medieval village – they haul those heavy loads of timber and stone that keep your town growing. Why Won’t My Ox Work?
There are a few reasons oxen glitch out in Manor Lords. Oxen, like most workplaces, need an assigned family to function. Sometimes, re-assigning workers to the Hitching Post or Stable fixes things.
Ox Handler “Waiting” Bug
This one’s a mystery. Your Ox (and its handler) just stand still with the status message “Waiting”. Reloading a save sometimes kicks them into gear.
The Case of the Dead (But Not Really) Ox
Raids are tough, and sadly, oxen can be casualties. If your Hitching Posts and Stables still count the dead oxen as “assigned”, it messes everything up since there are no free slots for new ones.
Fixes to Try
Make sure there’s a worker family assigned to your Hitching Post or Stable. Sometimes un-assigning and re-assigning them gets things sorted. Quitting and reloading a recent save can solve a surprising amount of early access glitches, including stuck oxen.
If you have a lot of oxen, temporarily unassign a few. Sometimes that pressure off the system can make things click back into place. Occasionally, moving your Hitching Post or Stable (or even rebuilding it entirely) seems to do the trick.
Remember, Manor Lords is still in development, so bugs happen. The good news is the developers are super active with updates, and this ox problem is on their radar.
