Look, Power Armor is amazing. You feel like an unstoppable force of post-apocalyptic justice stomping around in that thing. But sometimes, a Wastelander’s gotta climb out, stretch their legs, maybe fix a busted leg servo…the point is, getting OUT of the suit can be less intuitive than getting IN.

Just Use the Same Button
Okay, here’s the deal: the button you use to climb INTO your Power Armor is ALSO the one that gets you OUT. Should be simple, right? Except, sometimes it’s not.
- PC Users: “E” is your friend. Or foe. HOLD that key down, don’t just tap it like you’re checking if your Pip-Boy’s still working.
- Xbox: That “A” button is for entering AND exiting. Mashing it won’t help, just a nice, long press.
- PlayStation Peeps: It’s all about the “X”. Hold that button down and your character will do their exit animation.
Remember, if you messed with your controls, you’ll need to use whatever button you have assigned to “interact” instead.
Glitch Happens
Okay, Fallout 4, like most Bethesda games, is a little buggy. Sometimes, even if you’re holding down the right button, your character is just stuck inside that metal shell.
Save your game, quit ALL THE WAY out, then load back in. This fixes more glitches than you’d think. If you can open your map, fast travel somewhere else. Changing locations can sometimes shake out bugs keeping you stuck.
If you’re near a Power Armor Station, try modifying your suit. The animation of your character climbing out for the upgrade might be just what you need to break the glitch.
Final Words
Getting out of Power Armor is meant to be simple, but sometimes the Wasteland likes to throw curveballs. Remember, same button in as out, and when in doubt, try restarting your game or giving fast travel a shot.
